Parish Mission Statement
TO SPREAD THE GOOD NEWS OF JESUS CHRIST TO ALL GOD’S PEOPLE BY WORD
AND BY ACTION.
We the members of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church share in the proud history of the Catholic Church on the Gulf Coast that dates back to 1703.
Known as the nursery capitol of Alabama, Semmes is located in western Mobile County.
Holy Name of Jesus was established in 1978 to serve the people in the western area of Mobile County. The first Mass was celebrated August 28, 1977 in the Council home of the Knights of Columbus on Howell’s Ferry Road. The parishioners set about the task of putting together property and money for a new church and o July 2, 1978 the first Mass was celebrated in the new church.
Generations of families have worshipped here since the first Mass was celebrated in the Church in 1978. Beginning with 61 families in 1978 the Parish now has 350 families and continues to grow.
It is the parishioners that make the church alive in the Spirit of Christ. Come join us in worship, prayer and become a member of Holy Name Parish.
