Inspired by Saint Joseph of Arimathea, who courageously asked for the body of Jesus, reverently wrapped Him in a clean linen shroud, and laid Him in a tomb newly hewn from rock, the Arimathean Ministry of Holy Name of Jesus Parish offers a ministry of prayerful presence and Christian charity to those who mourn.
Arimatheans accompany grieving families as they bring their loved ones to the church for the final time, where the Church gathers to celebrate the Funeral Mass and commend the deceased to the loving mercy of God. Through their presence and active participation in the sacred liturgy, Arimatheans stand in solidarity with the bereaved, joining their prayers with those of the family and the whole parish community.
Volunteers attend the Funeral Mass, pray for the repose of the soul of the deceased, and entrust the family to God’s grace and consolation. In this quiet but deeply meaningful ministry, Arimatheans bear witness to the Church’s faith in Jesus Christ, who conquered sin and death and opened for us the hope of eternal life.
Through prayerful presence, compassion, and reverence, the Arimathean Ministry seeks to offer comfort, dignity, and peace to grieving families as they commend their loved ones into the hands of God and await with hope the promise of the Resurrection.
